Product overview
OptiCulture™ Serum-Free Medium-B (4E3-500-B) is designed for CNS and retinal research, delivering a nutrient-rich, physiologically attuned environment that promotes cellular health, barrier integrity, and functional phenotype expression, ensuring reproducible and translationally relevant results that generic media cannot provide.
This medium is particularly suited for:
- CNS and retinal cell cultures.
- Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) and Blood-Retinal Barrier (BRB) modeling.
- Neurovascular unit modeling.
- Organoid systems and co-culture platforms.
- Disease modeling and drug screening.
| Key feature | Key benefit |
| Nutrient-rich composition | Provides essential amino acids, lipids, nucleotides, vitamins, and cofactors to sustain healthy, long-lived cultures and support demanding assays. |
| Customizable supplements | Separate supplement vials allow researchers to adjust formulations for specific cell types, co-cultures, and experimental conditions - maximizing flexibility and reproducibility. |
| Physiological glucose levels | Mirrors in vivo glucose to maintain stable transcriptomic profiles, preserve native cell functions, and reduce experimental artifacts. |
| Proprietary brain-derived supplementation | Enhances cell-specific outcomes across the neurovascular unit:

OptiCulture Serum-Free Medium-B (4E3-500-B) kit consists of:
- 500ml nutrient-rich, serum-free basal medium.
- Optiboom-B (4OB-500-B) (brain-derived growth factor supplementation).
- Other supplements (ITS, Anti-Oxidants, Hydrocortisone).
- 10 ml Attachment Factor (4Z0-201).
Use with Attachment Factor™
For best results, use Cell Systems medium in conjunction with cell culture vessels coated with Attachment Factor™ extracellular matrix reagent. See the Attachment Factor™ protocol.
Medium storage
Cell Systems medium is shipped at ambient temperature. Upon arrival, immediately refrigerate the medium and supplements according to the storage instructions on the label. Once the medium has been supplemented with OptiBoom-B, or any component of the medium kit has been opened, the shelf life is 30 days when stored at 2–8 °C.
